Evaluation 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I feel that I have come a long way since my college magazine. I have now realised that using primary colours is crucial in order to capture the attention of the reader and target audience, as well as enable easy reading. Using different fonts is also an important aspect of a front cover as it helps to create an atmosphere, as well as allowing readers to view the difference between the main story, and the other cover stories. I believe that although my preliminary task was to create a college magazine, and I did that, the standard of my Photoshop work is poor, and paid little or no attention to the conventions.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Evaluation 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

Evaluation 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The audience for my magazine would be adolescents aged 14-18. The product is aimed at both males and females (although predominantly females, as they seemed to have more interest in the concept of my magazine); it focuses on the rock genre, thus limiting the audience slightly. This being considered, the quantity of adolescents that listen to the rock, or alternative genre is quite a large one, thus my target audience is still considerably large. As my audience are on the cusp of adulthood, the likelihood that they have a high paying job is unlikely,

Evaluation 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I believe an organisation such as News Corp may distribute my media product, as they publish
magazines such as Vogue and GQ. However, they haven't any products which are aimed at my target audience of adolescents, and the majority of their magazines are based on lifestyle or the news. I think that publishing a music magazine which is based on the rock genre would help them gain revenue, and potentially increase the sales of their other magazines, as when the target audience for my magazine mature, they then might begin to purchase other News Corp products.

Evaluation 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

My media product defies stereotypes in terms of the women featured, as they are unconventionally beautiful. My main artist (Image 1) is shown swearing at the audience in order to emphasize that she's not a fragile, delicate, or shy about voicing her opinion in an blunt, abrupt format. I feel that this is a really important representation of women, especially considering that the main aim of my product is to attract a predominantly female audience. The concept of girl power is really emphasized throughout the magazine, with the majority of my images on the contents page featuring female artists, and my double page spread showing how my artist made her way to success without depending on anybody else.

Another social group represented through my artists is members of the adolescent generation. I feel that the emphasis is on an element of lightheartedness in these representations, especially in Image 2 below. The use of a model with brightly coloured hair suggests a desire to stand out, and the pose in which he seems to be screaming shows that adolescents are shouting in order to allow their voices to be heard. I feel this is an accurate representation of teenagers of this generation, as social media is often used to voice opinions, and it would seem everybody is trying to stand out.

I also represent males in my magazine, and I feel as though some of my representations may slightly defy conventions. Image 2 features an outlandish looking male, with brightly coloured hair, and Image 3 focuses on two guys, one of which has hair which is on the longer side. I believe these are defying stereotypes as men are often viewed as quite rugged, yet neatly groomed individuals. Whereas the males in my magazine emphasise that not all representations of males in the media are accurate.
