Colour Schemes

Colour Scheme Ideas

I trialled a range of colour schemes on an Adobe colour scheme generator, and created these colour palettes from them. The colour in the centre of each swab would be the colour of the mast head. I have chosen palette three, as I believe that green will show up well on a white background, it is a gender neutral colour, and it combines well with purple (the colour of the college logo), which will be the colour of the headlines.

Masthead Ideas

Masthead Ideas

Initially, I was unsure of whether I wanted to create a general college magazine, or a magazine that focused on a specific topic (such as art or sports). I created a few lists with mastheads specific to said subjects, (refer to lists below), but ultimately decided on the name 'ASPIRE', as I would like to create a general college magazine. I chose 'ASPIRE', as college is often associated with ambition and drive.

Image Analysis

Analysis of the Trebor Unicorn Advertisement

The picture positions the viewer to the side of the unicorn, meaning that we are able to see all components of the image. The purpose of taking the picture from this angle, may be that those viewing it will see the unicorn's full horn, implying that Trebor mints are rare, just like the mythical creature. The unicorn's mouth is near the center of the image, thus the reader's eye will be drawn to it, and ultimately be led to the Trebor mint that the creature is being offered.

Moreover, the filter that has been used, makes the majority of the image appear in black, white and varying tones of grey. The purpose of this may be to make the Trebor mints packaging stand out as it is the only component in colour. Also the effect almost makes the advertisement look cleaner, as white is often associated with cleanliness (or freshness), and the majority of the components, (the unicorn, the mint, and the background) are white. The black gloved arm contrasts the lightness thus the viewer's gaze may be drawn to it.

Furthermore the components of the image all seem to be rather extravagant. The unicorn is a rare, mythical creature, that is known for purity. Perhaps it is included in the advertisement in order to make those viewing it associate Trebor mints with the same conventions. The gloved arm seems to belong to a wealthy individual, firstly due to the material that the glove appears to be made from (perhaps a dark velvet), but also due to the jewellery that the individual is wearing. As the jewellery appears to be expensive, it may be associated with high quality, and success. which may in turn be associated with the product.
